“Depression is a prison where you are both the suffering prisoner & the cruel jailer.” Depression Is a very common word that is deeply connected with our daily life. In present time, from childhood to adulthood most people suffer from depression. But we don’t know the proper definition & the reason of depression in medical field. This blog will inform us about depression.


What Is Depression?

Depression, is a mental or mood disorder that happens due to the simple imbalance of brain chemicals. It is serious medical illness that negatively effects on your mood, the way you think & how you act. It involves a persistent feeling of sadness & loss of interest.

Some Reasons of Depression –

The possible causes of depression can range from the biological to circumstantial.

Structure of brain – If the frontal lobe of your brain is less active then there is a greater risk of depression.

Effects of Neurotransmitters Depression has been linked to problems in the brain with regard to the neurotransmitters Serotonin, Dopamine, Norepinephrine. “Catecholamine hypothesis” is a popular explanation on depression that suggests deficiency of norepinephrine is responsible for creating depressed mood.

Low levels of serotonin associated with depression.

Insufficient dopamine can contribute depression.

Effects of some Medical conditions – Certain medical conditions such as chronic illness, insomnia, chronic pain, or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can increase the risk of depression.

Family History - You’re at a higher risk for developing depression if you have a family history of depression or another mood disorder.

Types of Depression –

There are two main types of depression –

1-  Major depressive disorder

2-  Persistent depressive disorder

Symptoms of the Major Depressive Disorder are –

1.              Insomnia means having trouble sleeping or sleeping too much.

2.              You may have less interest or pleasure in most or all activities.

3.              You may feel worthless or guilty.

Symptoms of the Persistent Depressive Disorder are –

     1.You can feel depressed or irritable.

     2. You must have poor appetite or overeating.

     3. Self-esteem should be low.

Some Ways to Get Rid of Depression -

Wake up in the Morning & do regular exercise because exercise temporarily boosts feel-good chemicals called endorphins. It may also have long-term benefits for people with depression.


Include 15 minutes of meditation in your daily life-style. Medication can also lead to an improved self-image & more positive outlook on life.


Eat healthy & nutritious food. Diet is so much related with depression.


Get enough sleep at night because depression is a serious condition that can cause a loss of sleep.


Read books or listen music in your free time because both are proven to reduce stress & increase relaxation.


Spend some time of a day with nature because nature is able to reduce stress.


In fact, depression is manifested through the instability of our minds. We can reduce depression by changing some of our habits if we want to. Try to keep yourself happy in any situation & stay healthy.
